Pepsi’s slogan; “Come alive with the Pepsi generation” did not work that well in Taiwan, where it translated as; “Pepsi will bring your ancestors back from the dead”.

Coke had a similar problem in China – Coca-Cola became Ke-kou-ke-la, which translated into “bite the wax tadpole” or “female horse stuffed with wax”.

Expanding into international markets can be costly if you do not adapt your marketing and message to local cultures and languages…
